- an independent patient interest group, with many years experience of building public influence in the NHS, including training over 120 members of the public to get involved in the NHS and running more than 60 events where local people have influenced decisions on health services and service changes.
TRANSFERRING OUR SKILLS
- We offer training so we help others learn what we have learnt. Courses offered include our accredited training in Enter and View for lay people in Local Involvement Networks, our independently evaluated training for NHS staff in involving patients and the public in NHS decision-making and our training for community groups in influencing delivered for the Greater London Authority.
- We work on new ways of linking up communities and the NHS, drawing in the views of 'marginalised' groups to give them influence, helping turn words into action for improved health and health services, building the skills and understanding of the NHS on the one hand and communities on the other, through our training schemes.
- Health Link works within the Compact, 'an agreement between government and the voluntary and community sector ...to work in partnership.' (www.thecompact.org.uk
). The Compact is supported by a Compact Advocacy Programme.
The Government undertakes under the Compact 'to recognise and support the independence of the sector, including its right within the law, to campaign, to comment on Government policy, and to challenge that policy, irrespective of any funding relationship that might exist, and to determine and manage its own affairs.'
